My father is dying and has expressed an interest in finding the ancestry of his maternal grandmother, Emily Perkins of Kaslo, British Columbia. I have no further information which I can provide. I do not even know her maiden name.

The second request is from me requesting any information on the ancestry of my grandfather Clifford Vance. His father is buried in the cemetary in Creston B.C., but I don't even know his first name. I was told that the family moved west from Ontario around the time of the Lizzie Borden murders. They first settled in Alberta where the city of Calgary is now located and then moved to British Columbia. My great-grandfather operated a horse logging operation in the Kootenays along with his two sons: Clifford and Gordon Robert Vance. Clifford settled in Kimberley in the late 1920's and worked for Cominco. He married Ida Rose Perkins of Kaslo B.C. July 26,1929 and they raised a family of three in Kimberley. Clifford Vance passed away in Kimberley B.C. in March of 1995 while Ida passed away August 5,1994.
They are both buried in the Kimberley cemetary.
Any information which could be provided would be appreciated!

My name is Bill Perkins, and I am a grandson of (Alice) Emily Perkins, nee Titus. She and my grandfather, Patrick were married in Scio, Oregon, then emigrated to Kaslo. My father was Hubert Perkins, the oldest of their three sons. I would be happy to relay any information about the family that I can.

If your dad was Bill Perkins I do have his e-mail address in my contacts but unfortunately never managed to send him an inquiry. I did learn that Emily Alice Perkins (Titus) was born in Gerard(spelling may be wrong) Kansas and lived with her maternal aunt after her mother died. When her father remarried they embarked on the Oregon Trail and settled in Sico Oregon(again the spelling may be wrong). Once she married one of seven brothers who emigrated from New South Wales, they travelled to Canada eventually settling in Kaslo where they raised their family. I did have contact with Sandra Schurman in Windsor, Ontario who relayed the majority of this information on to me. Her e-mail address at that time was dave-sandra.schurman@sympatico.ca. She is a daughter of Violet. I do not know if the e-mail is still valid. I hope the above information is of some use to you and would like to be notified if you have any further information. Thank-you!

Although it's a longshot, I may have connections to some of the people that you describe. I am told that the Hubert Harold Perkins I am looking for was a school teacher living in Elko, BC at time of his marriage. His father's name was Patrick Perkins, born in Australia. This Hubert Harold's mother was Alice Emily Titus who was born in Kansas. At age 25, this Hubert Harold Perkins, born in Kaslo, BC. married Ella Mildred McIsaac, age 18, of Ymir, BC., daughter of Wesley Byron McIsaac, born in Hartland, New Brunswick and Ella Edith Campbell, born in Iowa, on September 2, 1926. Witnesses to their marriage were Clarence McIsaac and Ida Perkins. I live in Fredericton, NB. Are your people my people????

YES! Your people are my people! The Ida Perkins you mentioned was my grandmother! Her full name was Ida Rose Perkins Vance. All the girls in the family had the names of flowers in their names. My grandmother passed away in August of 1994 and her husband Clifford Vance passed away in March of 1995. I orignally started my search when my own father was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He always watched the news and when a story appeared mentioning the Mormon website he wondered what information I might find out. I discovered during my search that Patrick Perkins emigrated to Canada from New South Wales and he was one of seven brothers to do so. He actually intially lived in oregon and married Emily Alice Titus there before settling in Kaslo, B.C. where they raised their family. I met some of the family during a summer spent in B.C. The family was very big on family reunions with large numbers in attendance. I believe I even had a picture of Hubert at the mentioned reunion. Emily Titus was bron in Girard, Kansas and when her mother passed away she lived with her father's sister Augusta until her father remarried. The family then travelled the Oregon Trail settling in Scio Oregon. According to my aunt the graves for Emily's father and step mother are located in Washington state. Have you any further information?

I'd be very interested to exchange information with you, if you're interested. I have some information which relates directly to Vances in Australia and perhaps therefore would be of interest to you.

I'm starting to try to collate some of the Scottish, Irish, American and other overseas Vances in the hope of finally sorting out the connection between them/you and my family of Vans of Barnbarroch. You may be familiar with the work I have already done on the Scottish side of the family which can be found at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~vfarch and with my published paper, "The Origin of the Irish Vances".

I am co-ordinating my work as far as I can with that of the Vance DNA research project - for further details of that, see http://www.vancegenealogy.com/index.php. I would urge any male Vances to take a look at the website and consider having a DNA test done as this seems to be a potentially useful tool in untangling the truth of the matter.

I would also be very grateful if any of you Vance descendants would be prepared to share your data with me, preferably as a gedcom file to save me re-typing it all.

Best wishes to all members of the Vans/Vance family,

Jamie Vans of Barnbarroch.

I called at Clifford Vance's home in Kimberly about 25 years ago. I was at Invermere at the time and in my way south to a dentist when I decided to look in the phone book and visit a Vance--choosing him . It turned out that he had the same name as my father and born , too in 1901,
I wished that my dad could have met him .
We had a good talk if you are interested Dolores Vance Appleton
