Your reply came as a surprise.......... Thank you.
After I posted my query I did some searches in current cost for such a journey
Average yearly wage for an average bloke in Alberta c 1905 was
around C$400
Current rail fares from Edmonton to Montreal for 2 adults and 6
infants total C$1514
They travelled on the Andania, Montreal - London in
1913......... This was a new ship and its 2nd voyage
They travelled on the Beltana in 1914 London - Sydney ( Via Cape
Town). I found a ref in Trove ( Australian ) newspapers that to travel on the
Beltana back to London in 1914 cost Aus 24 pounds. Was a single
class ship
So say 24 pounds per adult and maybe 12 pounds each child say
approx 140 pounds
They were in England from end November 1913 - Mar 1914
Were did they get such money ??????????
Its a mystery ! Did he rob a bank ????.
Elizabeth Minnie MAPLE came from Kent UK. So in all probability stayed with her family. They weren't a wealthy family. 6 little kids must have been a handful on such a journey.
They didn't have any more children upon arrival here !
No clue found as to why they did this journey .
Bye
