They did leave Germany for US on US transport ship by the name of USS General W. C. Langfitt in 1955 and went to US, settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I read that the USS General W. C. Langfitt was a transport ship for refugees, so maybe you're right and they might have been displaced persons. Thanks again, Alice
