I sent the other poster a private message but one thing other researchers should know is that Ukrainian was not commonly used as an identity and many "Russians" are likely from Ukraine or Belarus and their villages should be searched for there. Also the border moved after WWI to the east and then back west during WWII. Your town might have been in Poland between the world wars.
