Hi, What a coincidence, we live in Melbourne FL, Brevard Co. Yes, it's always difficult getting started, but there's so much availabe on the internet now, that anyone can "take up the shovel" (for digging...). We know very little of the FERENCZY family except they lived in the Miscolz, Borsod, Hungary area. My husband's ggrmother was Lizbetta/Elizabeth FERENCZY, who marr Francis/Frank SZTRAZSAI abt 1870-80. Their dtr Maria SZTRAZSAI immig to US 1905, to Clifton, Passaic Co NJ to stay with an Uncle (name unreadable on Ellis Isl recs). She marr within 6 mos to a Jozef/Joseph HOZA , in 1905, at St Mary's of the Assumption Slovak (Jozef was Slovak) Cath Church in Clifton-Passaic, Passaic Co NJ.
There are a few good sized libraries near you. The main Hillsboro Co/Tampa Lib has some genealogy materials. Another sorce are the local FHC, Family History Centers, in some Mormon Churches. There you can order micro-filmed records to view on site, for a few dollars, records from Hungary.
FERENCZY, I believe, is mostly Hungarian in origin, Magyar ethnically. In fact, that's what is listed in her Ellis Island landing recs, for race "Magyar".
It is a separate group of people with-in the Hungarian-Slovak areas; these people are noted for an unusual hair color, a light brown-silverish color. Very odd, my husband had this color hair (when younger) as did his father & sister. Their hair turns to silver at an early age (40's) and is just beautiful. Otherwise, they are generally light-skinned (fair) complected, with light (blue, grey, green) eyes, rather than the dark types. They are also tall, long-limbed & muscular, rather than short & stocky as most Hungarians are thought to be. It's the Gemanic tribal blood-lines that makes this ethnic group so different from the others in the same area.
Sorry to be so long-winded, but I'm an Anthropologist, and this is my forte`. Well, email me some of your data, & I'll help search for you until you can get your feet wet. Also, try posting on every web forum or query board you can find, you might get a nibble. Yours, Kathleen <
