Aha that is how you found that Catholics in Nagyhalaze were recorded in Kemecse and from Besztercz recorded in Demecser. You mentioned the 1877 gazetteer before but I hadn't looked carefully. I'm still trying to wrap my brain around the geographical divisions and the changes in them through the time in question to now. This isn't that easy in a "new" place as it takes a bit for me to "get it" but here it is made more confusing to me by all the strange-looking Hungarian names. It's fun to learn about it though. Forget those Rosareng/Keszaronz people as I think they are a red herring. Though it's useful to know who isn't in the candidates pool...helps narrow the field. In this case, I am going to have to work harder to see if I can determine a "match" for the Szabolcs megye Vendel Szabo from Nagyhalaze and Julia(nna) Kovacs from Beszterecz. I've taken a few passes at this radix stuff but see I will have to see what other stuff I can find. I did play with some tax lists and the like. Thanks for the info on Hungarian ethnicities.
