I succeeded!
I found 4 Canadian immigration documents for a mother and her 3 children coming from Biała (Czortków), Tarnopol, Poland in 1921. Three said their hometown was "Biala, Poland," which is a bummer because there are lots of Bialas. Thankfully one said "Biala, Chortkow, Poland."
These documents had BAJDUZA listed as the surnames and NAPORA listed as the closest relative in Poland. I thought this was too good not to explore.
I ordered the Biala (Czortkow) Greek Orthodox microfilms from the Family History Library, and soon found my great grandparents! Their birth years were a bit off, the filming was not exactly all in chronological order, but I managed to find the right names eventually. Everything matches the info in the Canadian marriage certificate that I found on the Manitoba Vital Statistics web site: the husband, the wife, the parents.
My next goal is to go back a generation or two :)
Here's my ancestral region over the years:
Until 1919: Biała (Czortków), Galizien, Austria
1919-1939: Biała (Czortków), Tarnopol, Poland
1940-Present: Bila, Chortkiv, Ternopil′, Ukraine
