Janet,
Thank you so much for your help! Though I have visited the site regarding Lausilaus and his Civil War career you offer much needed perspectives I had not thought of.
I did get photocopies (quite poor copies) of the "Konenszewski Family Papers" from the UM at Rollo MO (all in Polish) and, as with most "family papers", I am sure are not complete (since Robert is missing from the lineup). I have sent scans of Johann's (Erasmus or Eustachius) baptismal record and letter stating he had been awarded the "Decoration Military Silver Cross" to Prof. Dr. Zdzislaw P. Wesolowski to see if, in fact, Johann was awarded the Order of the Virtuti Militari 5th class as well as gettings Dr. Wesolowski's translation and Polish spelling of the name.
I will begin to research Polish nobility history as best I can. I am an historian by trade but American history. I hope I can hold my own within the realms of the complexity and often convoluted history of Central Europe.
I will keep you posted on my prgress and if you run across more resources or have more valuable insights please let me know. I value your assistance.
Lynn
