Austria pre-WWI question, possibly Slovenia: Do you recognize the locations Saint Mataya and/or Welljobla? These are from the US WWI and WWII draft registrations listed as place of birth by an immigrant who came from what was Austria before WWI. On his Census records, Slovene is noted as his mother tongue. I'm hoping to learn the current location of his original home. These may be phonetic spellings.
The man also stated on his WWI draft registration (1918) that he had served in the Austrian infantry.
This is not an ancestor, but is one of the persons interred in the local cemetery with others who were down on their luck, hospitalized, or otherwise without resources. This fellow worked for many years with a railroad. I'm just trying to recapture the histories of the folks who were buried and somewhat forgotten.
Thanks!
