Hi Tina,

Looks like you got a good mystery going on this town name.

Kingston, or Kingstown, does not show anywhere in Mecklenburg and have tried these town search sites. You may want to look for yourself.

The closest one I found is Kingitten, near Königsberg at:
http://progenealogists.com/germany/ewpruss/pru-keg.htm

You are right, those documents show Wark Kan Gen for the town name in Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany.

Using the Mecklenburg Gazetteer for W towns:
http://progenealogists.com/germany/mecklen/meckuz.htm

Wargentin looks the closest.

Another possibility is Warnkenhagen but there are 3 of those.

So I would order the microfilms, or ask someone if they already have the microfilms for these towns and could do a look up for you. The parish records on microfilm from the LDS church are a great source for showing baptizms, births, deaths, and marriages and if you find the town you will likely get many more generations.

The films are fairly cheap at only $3.25 per film per month, so you could order the ones that may have the birth of your Lewis Holtz, born 3 July 1836, to check.
