While I don't have any information on your Schmidts, you may not realize that Kemel became part of Heidenrode over time.

I have a Matthias Buecher living in Kemel during the middle 1700's, whose son Johann Philipp, barrelmaker, master linen weaver, married a woman in the village of Oberems and lived out his days there. I have not pursued the Kemel line yet.
