Hi,
I was wondering if anyone was well versed in reading the old Hamburg city directories? I found an entry I'm trying to figure out but even though I've tried translating it, I'm not quite sure what the format of the information is... ie, is it listing someone's occupation and address?
If anyone could provide any help it would be greatly appreciated... the text is:
Broocks, Joh. Pet. Martin, Erben, Schlosser-
meister, Billwärder-Neuerdeich no 86 u. 87
To me it seems the name is Joh. Pet. Broocks-- is Martin part of the name or another segment of information? "Erben" means "heir or inherit" but I don't understand the meaning in the directory, "Schlossermeister" translates to "master locksmith" so I'm guessing an occupation? I don't know what the last part is, an address?
Anyhow who has a knowledge of German or these old city directories, I would very much appreciate any assistance you could provide. Also, if the last part is an address does anyone know how I would find out what section of Hamburg it might be in?
Once again, thank you!
Thank you!
