Thank you all for your insights. Each post either answered a question I had or satisfied a conclusion as being correct. I was completely in the dark except for a few guesses.

My immediate relatives are Roman Catholic and while researching I encountered and these GEL records related to some family members. I set out to find in which generation the records first applied. More presently, family members are UCC members and I just could not understand how they got from this church to a completely different denomination. Now, I see how the change may have taken place and that the denomination is not necessarily a completely different set of beliefs.

This page is at the beginning of a ledger listing members of this combined congregation. It is not surprising they would set forth the articles then. I too was under the impression the building was not yet constructed.

Anyone have a recommendation of where to read more about the GEL church in America?
