Has anyone in the family had DNA testing done? My DNA shows a notable number of Carrolls. This stymies me as my adoptive mother is a Carroll (maiden name, Protestant ancestry, Maryland, Revolutionary War period).
My biological ggg-grandparents immigrated to the US in 1849, possibly from County Westmeath or County Meath (Clonmellon Parish is part of both counties). Can you tell me if you have any ancestry names of Batterby, Battersby, Hassett, Blennerhassett, Hassan, or Hassen? I'm afraid we aren't having very good luck finding our Irish ancestors either. Ggg-grandparents John Hassett b.c.1806 Ireland m. Catharine Batterby/Catherine Battersby b.c.1800 Ireland. As I said, the family emigrated to the US in 1849. John, Catharine, daughter Ellen, son John Jr. are buried in a Roman Catholic cemetery. Daughter Mary was the only to marry & she married a Protestant man, a next door neighbor, hence Protestant burial. Baby Catherine died at sea.
Also, we know of no siblings nor parents nor location of birth or origin for our John Hassett. He may have been John Hassan or John Hassen prior to emigration.
I am DNA tested on Family Tree DNA. Catharine Batterby Hassett is my most distant direct line female ancestor. My mtDNA haplogroup is K1C2. Any and all information appreciated. Thanks. Sue
