Dear Fellow Posters,
Would any one out there do me a kindness by doing a Lookup for a record I found on a paying site,, I did a search on an ancestor and a result came up but to get any info you have to subscribe to the site. Not being in the financial position to do this I thought maybe if I posted what I could learn, somebody might be able to lookup the record for me.
The search I did was for a John McDevitt who married a Catherine Malone, we know John was a Military man, from the 51st Regiment and the 80th Regiment from 1820 - 1842.
The result that came back when I did the search was
John Devit m. Catherine McDevit, Tyrone, Northern (Ireland), the source (not highlighted in the search result) was from the
Irish Records Extraction Database.
If they are mine they would have married any time from say 1820 onwards, we have worked out that John was born c.1803,,he was recorded as being discharged in 1842 from the Regiment at age 39......When he died in 1852 here in Australia on Norfolk Island, to be exact, they list him as being 52 yrs old.....On his army record it says he was born in Raffae,,,, Donegal,,, I have since been told that that place doesnt exist, but a place called Raphoe would sound similar.
Can anyone help me with this,,I would be very grateful, I have been researching this couple for many years and they have led me a merry dance. To be so close now and not be able to touch, so to speak, is rather frustrating.
There are so many sites now that wish for one to join that it works out rather costly.
Many thanks for taking the time to read my message.
Regards
