Vikki, Got your post. My great-grandmother was named Sarah Johnston. I don't have a birth date for Sarah or a maiden name. She died in 1923 and by backtracking from a census, I figure she was born in the late 1800's. On the 1901 census she lived in Moneymore and had 4 children: Mary Jane, William, Edith, and Robert Andrew. There was also a "boarder: listed named John McElwain. My grandmother always went by the name Edith McElwain Johnston and I have never known why. Could it be possible that McElwain was Sarah's maiden name and this was passed down this way and that John was Sarah's brother? Don't know of a James Johnston but then anything is possible. Could my Sarah be the daughter of your Sarah McElwain and James Johnson? Don't know anything about Sarah's early years, birth or marriage since she's listed as a spinster on the census it's very confusing. So I guess there very well could be a connection. Please let me know if your Sarah had a daughter named Sarah. Thank you. Nancy
