Looking for ties to my great grandfather, Garrett (Gerald) Barry who was born ca. 1838 in the general vicinity of Tralee. He was the son of Garrett Barry, farmer. We suspect his mother may have been Ellen Connor. While he probably had six or more siblings, for many years we only knew the names of three: Maurice, Patrick and Catherine. We now have reason to believe that he had a younger brother, John, born ca. 1841, who was occupying the family farmland in Lissardboola at the time of the 1901 census with his wife, Johanna age 59, sister Mary age 50, son, John, Jr., age 26 (unm.), dau. Maggie age 20 (unm.), and son Stephan age 16. All could read and write. Wife Johanna may have been the dau. of John Lynch and Mary Sheehan born about 1843 somewhere in County Kerry. Altho John was not the eldest, he probably inherited the family farm since his elder brothers either died before him or, in the case of Garrett, Jr. and Patrick, removed to Burnley, Lancashire in the UK. Garrett, Jr. enlisted in the British Army shortly after his marriage to Jane Looney ca. 1859. She may have been the dau. of Dennis Looney of the same townland. Garrett, Jr. rose to the rank of Colour Sergeant before his retirement and was a member of the 5th Royal Lancashire Regiment. His brother Patrick found employment in the coal mining community of Hapton not far from Burnley. I have much family information inre to later generations which I would love to share with my Barry cousins, some of whom, may still be residing in County Kerry.
