Hi, Pat. It looks like what Ann Joyce Quinn Roane gave you was a copy of my "Descendants of Patrick Joyce" file that I had given her a couple of years ago. My father and her mother, Charlotte, were first cousins and kept in touch throughout their lives. I finally met Ann Joyce in 2006 when the Catholic parish in Kewanee had a celebration of its 150 years of parish life. As part of the celebration they honored the founding families and invited descendants to attend. When I found out about it, I looked in a 40-50 year old address book of my mother's and found a phone number for Ann Joyce. I called her, introduced myself, and asked her if she would like to meet me in Kewanee for the 150th jubilee. She drove from Moline and I drove up from Louisiana. That was the first time we had met. I gave her a copy of all the genealogy information I had accumulated on the Joyce line. She showed me the Cavanagh farm and cemetery and also Mt. Olivet Cemetery in town.
I made a trip to County Carlow in 2001. That is where I was able to find information about Patrick and his wife. I have a photo of his grave stone which was erected by Matthew Joyce in 1845. It was that stone that gave me the information that Matthew had been married to another Mary before he married our Mary Farrell.
It is interesting how the flow of information goes is wide circles - from me to Ann Joyce - from Ann Joyce to you - from you back to me. I am glad to know it is being used. Since you already have a copy of my file and all my research, there is little else I can add. I have attempted to go back one more generation but have not yet made any headway establishing who Patrick's parents were. Maybe you can undertake that task! I will get back to Ireland again one of these days and perhaps can find something I missed before.
Keep working on it. I would love for someone to be able to take my research further than I was able to do. BETTY
P.S. Where do you live?
