Classification: Query
Surnames: HOLLINGER
Many Co. Antrim and Down Hollingers are listed in Google and sortedbyname.com (Hollen to Hopkins). I have read that the original family came from Hovil Bonisvil, Canton Argauu, Zurich. An early Hollinger, I think John, was listed in the 1776 Poll Book of Freeholders and took part in an anti-poverty riot in Belfast. The 1901 and 1911 Censuses listed Hollingers in Belfast, Aghavarry, Ballyscullion and Rashee plus Kilbride. The name was also found in Newtownards. Occasionally the name is spelled Hullinger. I believe I have read that some Ulster Ho
llingers emigrated to Canada and the U.S. in the 19th. C The name is also found in County Monaghan.
