Classification: Query
Surnames: BUSBY
Busby was a common name in different Carnmoney townlands and likely all related in some way. The origin of the name is English meaning bush or shrub farm. There is a Busby in North Yorkshire but the surname seems to have originated in Staffordshire. hough not related I have at times come across references to the Carnmoney Busbys. James Busby married Mary Dunning April 17, 1833 in Carnmoney Presb. Church. Mary A. Mulligan 1854-1928 married Alex J. Busby (1851-1914) in the Chruch of the Hily Evangelists (C of I), Carnmoney. In Friear's Bush graveyard in Belfast there is a gravestone for John Busby, son of James. Died Mar. 5 1836 aged 16. The North of Ireland Family History Society has put out a book entitled, "The Hidden Graveayrd" with all the memorial information for the Carnmoney Parish Church. They also have a CD recording the memorial inscriptios for the Church of the Holy Evangelists in Carnmoney.
