Looking for the parents of Thomas Tweedy of Thirsk. Apparently he was of the brewing family there but I can find no evidence of his actual parents. He was born abt. 1782, not sure if he was actually born in Thirsk as a lot of his children baptised in Bulmer. His wife was Ann Wildon, they married 1811 in Huttons Ambo. This info and a lot of other Tweedys of Thirsk are found in the LDS database but considering his birthdate I can find no parents that would match. His children were:
Matthew b. 1812 in Thirsk, m. 1)Mary Smith, 2) Mary Steadman, d 1877 in Thirsk;
John b. 1815;
George b. 1817;
Ann b. 1819;
Thomas b. 1822;
Joseph b. 1825.
All but Matthew emigrated to Prince Edward Island, Canada. I am looking for evidence of his wife's family as well, apparently from North Otterington. Buried with them on PEI are "William Wildon a native of Yorkshire d. 24 January 1859 ae 79. Sarah Sivers a native of Yorkshire d. August 1872 ae 68." This is probably Ann's brother and his wife.
My evidence so far are these two passages:
"Thomas Tweedy went back to England the year following his emigration and brought all his family except Matthew the eldest son who aquired the Tweedy brewery and farm at Thirsk, Yorkshire. Matthew's son later emigrated to PEI. Thomas settled in what was then Gallas Point in Earnscliffe."
"The Tweedys first appeared in Cherry Valley and Vernon River [PEI]. Four brothers and two sisters came from Yorkshire, of an ancient lineage. Their ancestors were brewers. They brought advanced standards of education and farming methods. They were excellent Yorkshire pioneers." - Distilled from "Hebridean Pioneers" by Malcolm A. MacQueen
Matthew Tweedy's son Thomas, b. 1858 in Thirsk, m. Ann Elizabeth Bulmer of Felixkirk. His son George b. 1860 m. Annie Margaret Lancaster also of Yorkshire. George also emigrated to Prince Edward Island.
Any connection to this family would be appreciated!
