Surely, if Kate was born a good few years before her mother Eliza re-married, Eliza might not have known Thomas Jones then? Did Job have a brother, or any relative called Thomas Hayes, who might actually be a real person, rather than a conjugation of names? Because if Eliza did not know Thomas at the time of her birth, why would she randomly put Kate's father's name as Thomas, after Thomas Jones? Surely, if Thomas Jones was Kate's real father, why wouldn't she put that on the marriage certificate, or start calling herself Kate Jones instead? I know she was illegitimate, most probably, but I find it strange.
