No problem- I did receive this reply. I went and looked up Ditching Parish Records and it appears they are not online available to view yet, however you could either contact East Sussex Record Office and ask, ask the church itself to look, or apparently the London Family History Centre has it on Microfiche.

Here's a list of Pains I found on censuses born in Ditching


George Paine 1835/6
Jane Paine 1831
Elizabeth Payne 1835
Winefred (Winifred?) 1837
Edward Payne 1839
Richard Payne 1840
William Payne 1826


I think there are millions born in Ditching around this time, these are just a few, and it looks like different variations of the spelling.


I also have reason to believe his mother was Mary. Have you found Peter, born 1834 on the 1841 census? He's living with mother Mary in Ditching, with siblings William, James, Jane, George and Richard. The father does not appear.
