Most children were baptised within a month or so of birth, however many slipped the net.
It could have been down to a family trauma (a death) them moving house away from the family church. I have known of plenty of children being baptised as a job lot back in the parish mum or dad were born in.
My grandma b 1900 was one of 10 children and only 2 of them, including her, was not baptised at all. Odd eh?
A friend's ancestry has 3 boys who were orphaned by 1840 aged 3, 5 and 7. The youngest was baptised at age 9 once he'd been put with a new (unconnected?) family.Mum was very ill after having him and then she died,I suppose they just didn't get round to it.Then dad died too,all very sad.
