Hi,
I'm researching my Williams family who originated from the Newport area of Shropshire. Edwin Williams born about 1820 in Newport was a chair maker by trade, his wife's name was Mary Burrows, they married in Newport 1842. Daughter Elizabeth born 1843 married Edward Buckley in Manchester Cathedral 1864, and two sons Edwin Henry 1849-1922 married Elizabeth Pearson in 1873, Edwin was also a chair maker by trade, & James 1845.
The family relocated to Manchester sometime in the late 1840s, James, born in 1845 Manchester went on to own a substantial business in Henry Street.
He was a cabinet/chair maker, importer & supplied furniture to a wide range of establishments both retail & wholesale.
James married widow Mary Furness (formerly Wilman) in Lancaster 1873, they had three daughters, Mary 1875, Eleanor 1876 & Lavinia 1878-1885, & two sons Albert 1882-1917 & Ernest 1884. Mary also had children from her marriage to James Furness (who was a coal dealer in Lancaster.) James Edward 1861, John Thomas 1867, Robert Wildman 1870 (died in infancy) & Agnes 1871.
They continued to live with Mary & James Williams throughout their childhood.
The family lived in Crumpsall Manchester for a while. From my research so far it appears that Ernest took over his father's business, either when he retired or died. I'm about to order Albert's will as probate was granted to his brother Ernest in 1917.
I haven't been able to find a death that fits for James yet, when I do I'll try to find his will, which I think should be very useful. There's been a suggestion that the Williams worked with/supplied the well known firm of Waring & Gillows at some point, which will make for some interesting research.
Any help or advise would be great, many thanks.
