I wonder if this is your family. On the 1861 Census there is a Joseph KENNETT (transcribed wrongly - should be Kennedy)- born 1832 Ireland - he is 29. His wife is Bridget she is born Ireland 1835. They have a daughter Maryan - age 10. On the 1871 Census where you have found Mary Ann - if you go on 2 further pages on the Census to page 34 you will see Joseph and Bridget again with the same family - he is a colliery worker. So Mary Ann was in the same area as her parents.

There is a marriage Reg for a Joseph Kennedy and Bridget COX 1850 Oct Nov Dec Qtr Chorlton Lancs.
