I think the word on the 1911 census is "none".

I am not sure about the money, though - John was a stoker on the railways - perhaps the offer to look after Edith as well as the child was a way of assuaging a guilty conscience.

John is fairly easy to trace prior to 1911. Let us know if you need help with this. Post-1911 research is always trickier, but he seems to have died in 1957. I think Ada died in 1932.
