Just wanted to add that I have found that the wife of James Gardiner, the wine merchant, was Sarah Hind Gardner, Liverpool Daily Post 4 Nov. 1864. My ancestor was Sarah Howell Gardiner, not Sarah Hind Gardner, per her marriage record. So I think the wine merchant is not my James Gardiner. But, the Wine and Spirit Merchant is also called a Ships Store Dealer. My ancestor was called a Ships chandler on his oldest daughter's obituary so I will continue to try to narrow down which James Gardiner living in Liverpool at this time is the correct one for my family.
