Yes, the house is still standing. Go to Cheshire Archives & Local Studies website maps.cheshire.gov.uk and search the Tithe maps for the name BROOME. John BROOME is the owner of Plots 70, 71 & 72 in Hurdsfield, Prestwich (shown on the 2nd page). Then click on the map button on the right hand side to see where his house was in the 1836-1851 Tithe map. Next click on the Modern map tab on the right hand side of the page. That gives the modern map in the same position as the adjacent 1836-1851 map. The plot is on the corner of Rainow Road and Cliff Lane, Higher Hurdsfield. Plot 71 is where his own house was. You can then see it on Google Street View, although it is rather hidden by a big hedge. You can also view it in a satellite view.
