Thankyou! I’ve been looking for the actual definition of a marriage “ban” but had yet to find one that explained in detail and actually explained what it was in an 19th century context.
Okie Dokie. Well, I know that they weren’t underage, as Hannah would have been about 31 and Moses 45. And I think it’s exceedingly unlikely that they were related in any way, Hannah was from Wantage, and Moses from Padworth. Although it is possible that there was objection from either family.
Moses’ had a previous wife Ann Sweetzer, whom he had 7 children with and I was unsure as to the death record of her. It is possible she died in 1809. But I suppose it’s also possible she was still alive and Hannah and Moses ran away to London to marry despite the fact that Moses was still married?
Is this even possible/likely?
