Are you still there? I just discovered your original post from 10 years ago! I live in Canada. My maternal grandmother was a Jeal from Dorking, Surrey...her entire family emigrated to Canada in 1905. I have traced the family and its collateral lines a fair amount. It's clear that those Dorking Jeals originally came from Warnham, Sussex. Could I compare notes with you sometime to see if there is a connection? There is a myth circulating in our family that the Jeal surname was created from the first letter of the names of four Huegonot brothers who fled to England to escape persecution in their home land.
