My dad was from Monterey, Tn. He moved to Oh after getting out of the Army - around 1946. I know very little about his family other than he had 9 brothers and sisters. His mother died when my dad was a toddler. I have tried to get info in the past from his sisters, but they were reluctant to talk very much. My dad was born around 1922. I was wondering if you would share any info you have. I live in OH, no remaining Clark relatives in OH. Thanks Barb

Hi Tesha Nothing rings a bell but I printed out your reply and will ask my mother. All she could remember was that my dad's father was JB Clark and his wife was Elizabeth. Elizabeth died during or shortly after the birth of her 10th child. Probably in the late 1920's. I am going to ask her to find out if my aunt remembers the name of the street they lived on. I think I recall my dad saying that he lived outside of town. That's all for now. I plan on talking to my mom tonight or tomorrow and if she has any other info I will let you know. bye Barb

Re: CLARKS of Tennessee
Classification: Query
Surnames: Johnson, Dunham, Sturgeon
I am interested in finding info on a Thomas Clark, a John Clark, and also a James Clark. I know that there were two Thomas Clarks in Warren Co. in 1820's and also John. Thomas Sr. and Jr. and James Clark were then in Dade Co. Ga. by 1840. The younger Thomas later settled in Ark. I believe. There seems to have been a close connection with these families and my Johnson families. They were in the same places for many years and the Johnson's married Clark girls. I am trying to find out who the parents were of Nancy, Catharine, and Obedience Clark and their brother Thomas. I am trying to find out if there was a closer link, say a Clark marrying a Johnson member. If there were any links with these and the Dunham family? And lastly if there is a record of ? Clark marry a Nancy Sturgeon, mid 1860's, war time, Phelps, Texas or Dent Co. Missouri. I believe that there is a continuation of the families here and am trying to discover the thread that holds it all together. We have "family" dates for our Johnson's but missing a good paper trail as yet. Thank you. Joyce

I have a George Wesley Clark (b 1832 TN/ died unk)and a Hiram G. Clark(b 3-17-1870 TN/ d 1-23-1922 AL) Hiram married Mary Ann Conley 5-23-1892 and they had 12 children. Hiram's father, Wesley as he was called, married Mary Ann Chamber abt 1856 in either NC or TN. I have a line on their children but I cannot verify if it is Hiram;s father/family for sure. Record keeping of birth, death and marriages is very unreliable back then and Ancestry.com is no better. If I run across your family members in my research I will be glad to respond and let you know what I discovered. Joseph Clark, III

Thanks for your help, if you see anything close, please keep me in mind. Our Clarks lived in Ozark, Mo, for awhile, then to Mills county, IA, finally Sarpy County, NE. Mostly, can't verify any of this until the last group in Sarpy County. Rumor was George moved up here, took off with a wagon train, leading it to California, never returned. Can't verify that either. Since the names, George, Hirem, Wilbur, fall in your line, I'm hoping someday to find some connection. Thanks Dee

Lisa: There is a rather exhaustive study book writen by S.A. Perry and it is titles " Clark Family Records" and was published in Camden, South Carolina date unspecified. The back of the book is a treasure trove of reference books the author used for his research. You may want to try and find a copy of it at a local library. It may well be worth your while to read it. I am still looking for my wayward Clark/Conoly/Conley/Chambers (my family has the letter C sewed up in the alphabet-lol) family members in the wilds of Tennessee and Kentucky. Let me know if you find the book. If not write back and I'll try to scan it(55 pgs) and email it to you. Joe
