The McCarty connection is this - It is commonly believed that The Kid was born William Henry McCarty, but there is no concrete proof of this. He also went by the alias William Henry Bonney, "Kid Antrim" and later “Billy The Kid”. Thought to have been born sometime around 1859-1861, perhaps in New York, Indiana or Missouri although the true date and place remain a mystery. His mothers name was Catherine McCarty, and Irish woman, and his fathers identity is unknown. His mother married a William Antrim in Santa Fe, New Mexico and they moved down to Silver City, New Mexico after Billy’s father passed. He actually went by his middle name Henry and not “Billy” at all, so as not to be confused with his stepfather. By about 1877 he was going by the name of William Bonney, but mostly by "Kid" or "Billy The Kid". Presumed to have been killed after the Lincoln County War by Sheriff Pat Garrett at Fort Sumner, New Mexico on 14 July 1881. He had been about twenty years old when Pat Garrett’s posse caught up with him at Stinking Springs.
