I will try and address each of your questions.. First there is some thought that Nancy Mary Ann Williams may have been Lightfoot Williams daughter . I will quote from Mrs Anne Williams McAllister's book. THROUGH FOUR GENERATIONS.Nancy Mary ANn William Chapman 1814-1868 was raised by Lightfoot WIlliams and Mary Whitener , the oldest daughter of Heinrich Weidner. It has been handed down in the family that nancy's mother was a Cherokee Indian who was moved with the Chrokee to Oklamhoma(1938) and died there. Some have said that Lightfoot William was the father of Nancy Mary Ann, and his and Mary's will mentioned Nancy Mary Ann as "the girl we raised" and she was the sole heir. However there is authentic data to prove as fact those stories which have bben handed down throught several generations. Nancy WIlliams Chapman appeared on the Catawba Census as "white". It would have been illegal to adopt an Indian Child or marry an Indian, which Lightfoot William would have known as he was as you mentioned person of Law. ANNE WILLIAMS MCALLISTER thoughts is that Nancy MAry Ann was the dau of Sarah Mull and James Ramseys although I have no proof of this theory.......now for my opinion for some of your comments.. My personal conversation with Mrs. McAllister is she felt that there was either danger or some problem with the child living with her parents. .. The Hildebrans I also decent from and they lived in the same part of the country A corner of Lincoln, Burke, Catawba, Cleveland Counties. I alos lived in that area most of my life, I am familiar with all the names, .. Caldwell County is not near this area really..I know many Shells, Martins . And yes your Family is very very close to Lincoln County, maybe not in cen. but a person could walk in in a circle and be in each of these counties in a couple hours, if you can invision how close the boundries are to each other in this place we are speaking of..I do not find right away your George Martin... There are plenty of Martins. . I believe there is a Melungeon connection to this family.. or families but have not researched it enough to bring even a slight conclusion.. will try and look your Martins up. patty..pattyjocline@hotmail.com
