Yancy is actually part of the Southern Broadways, families that I haven't worked on in many years. (My notebooks on these people are in storage for the next few years, as I have moved and am, temporarily, living in an apartment.) However, I do have some addition information on Yancy Broadway that I published in the "Bradway-Broadway Bulletin in 1976.

In the Lincoln Co. TN Chancery Court Minute Book pp. 590-592, there is an intestate proceeding for John Broadaway dated 16 Dec 1843. (John died in the "fall of 1841"). Deceased left a widow named Martha, but no children.

John's brother, Lemuel, administered the estate, which names all of John's siblings and the children of siblings who were already deceased. These siblings were:

James of Marshall Co. TN
Joseph of Mississippi
Lydia who m. John Orrick and resided in McNairy Co. TN
Susannah who m. Jacob King
Charlotta who m. Jeremiah Hedgpeth
Sarah (deceased) who m. Frederick Foster
Jesse of Lincoln Co. TN
Mary who m. (-----) Bynum (we never were able to figure out his first name which looks a bit like "Rika")
Lemuel, administrator

While this estate was being probated, Jesse Broadaway died intestate (after 1841 but before 1843) and his children are listed as:

YANCY of the State of Arkansas
James, also of Arkansas
Frances who m. Estelle Jewell
John G. of Lincoln Co.
Sarah and
Mary, both of Lincoln Co.

Yancey was listed in McNairy Co. TN in 1840. We located him in the 1850 Census for Poinsett Co. Arkansas but, during the time period we were working on these people, the most recent census index that was available was 1850, so we couldn't track him further in census records!

Lemuel Broadway (Broadaway - used interchangeably with several other spelling variations) b. 1793 d. 1873 Flat Creek TN, was the son of John and Agnes (-----) Broadaway. Right now, I cannot "dig out" where John and Agnes resided (prob. TN), but if you post a message on the Broadway Message Board, I think you might get more information. There are a LOT of descendants of this couple scattered around the south. If I can locate more information for you, I'll post another message.

Is this your Yancy Broadaway?
