I have some information that may be useful to someone else: Simon Helm on the 1860 Census in Carroll County, MO is really Samuel Helm. He was born in PA. However, he served in the war with Mexico in Captain Marshall's Company F, 1st Reg Ky Cav raised in Woodford County, Ky in 1846. His brother was William Helm who is living with him in 1860. They are also living next door to Jacob Helm and his wife Sarah. Jacob was also born in PA.
