In old native Amer.census, I've found no color, age listed, all illiterate, male children had to go to school. You won't find any m. listed as they just moved in and set up house. Instructions for Dawes records are online and about $10. In my TX/AL Sellers line, we have a Wesley Bryant Sellers who d. as a teen. The Raleigh/Raley/Railey line, NC/TX has a Walkingstick whom I have not yet contacted. The way old FL/GA/SC lines were drawn, as you mention black, Seminoles intermarried. One census that I recall was 1850 White Co., TN to see what I'm trying to explain. The women kept their maiden name. The Eastern Band of Cherokees is in my line.
