Thanks for your reply Ellen. The 1850 Census for Athens Twp, Athens County, OH, lists your David Carpenter and his wife Maria and children. Immediately below is the family of JAMES BOUGHER (misspelled as Buker/Baker by the census taker and the Ancestry transcriber) and his wife Maria Carpenter. Included in the household of James and Maria Bougher is the name of Joseph Carpenter, age 76, who was Maria's father and the husband of Sarah Graham.
