Christopher Charles Rachford was my GG grandfather.

Augusta Snyder's family was not from Virginia. Her father, William Henry Snyder Sr. (went by Henry), and his family immigrated to the US from Germany and settled in Vandalia, Illinois. Henry's father, Emanuel Augustus, had joined the Ernst Colony which was formed specifically to immigrate to the US. Vandalia had been founded for this group. The group left Germany on the ship "Virgin" and arrived in Baltimore, MD on October 2, 1820. They then started for Vandalia where they arrived on December 19, 1820. Henry died in Vandalia on February 14, 1865/66.

Augusta's sister, Julia, married Finis Hickerson in 1864 in Vandalia. Augusta and the Hickersons migrated to Modoc County, California, in 1864-1865.

Christopher's parents are buried in the St. Jarleth Cemetery in Iosco, Waseca County, Minnesota.
