John Evans married Rebecca Huxley 1873, Whitchurch, Shropshire

Looking for information of John Evans, born about 1848, Wrexham Wales, no idea who his parents or siblings are, sure would like to find out.
John Evans married Rebecca Huxley, she was the daughter of James Huxley and Sophia Ashely, born 18 Oct.1843, Shropshire, England
John and Rebecca's children are Joseph W Evans, John Evans, George H Evans, Sarah A Evans, all born at Shropshire.
I also believe Rebecca had a son William Huxley born 11 July 1869, Shropshire before she married John Evans. William and brother Joseph both immigrated to Manitoba, Canada, I don't anything more of the rest of the family.
Any help would be wonderful.
Thankyou,
Cheryl

Have you been able to go backwards in the census of British Isles? The 1841 or 1850 census would be a good start as the Shropshire and Welsh census cross over somewhat...........

You should be able to pick up JOhn and his bride in the census right after marriage whatever year it would be, provided they had not migrated. I might do a bit of looking also....and how about comparitive research in the BMD and the district of the marriage? Might get some possible from that......and also try the historical directories if you get lucky and find a comparable to check.....trades, etc...

If you order the marriage certificate of Rebecca HUXLEY you will likely get the name of the groom's father and where from as well as the bride. All this information was on the one I received for the marriage of my great grandmother who was from Whitchurch

I see a Rebecca HUXLEY in HODNET, SHROPSHIRE. Born ca 1846, She lives with her father who is a widower John BAILEY. She is marriae to Samuel HUXLEY age 29 and there is a boy named Harry HUXLEY who was their son and age 5. The head and father of this Rebecca is deaf. Have you checked to see if Rebecca had been widowed after 1871? this is the 1871 census of SHROPSHIRE and most brides are married from their home.

This may be "all wrong" but it's another angle to review.

The second Rebecca HUXLEY lives in Ash Magna in 1871 with her parents James and Sophia HUXLEY. James is a shoemaker and Rebecca is a "farm serv." and age around 2_?. A grandson to James and Sophia is age 1 but no male is in the home so it may be son of a son of James and Sophia or ??

This Rebecca was born in Whitchurch. Census Dist is #9. There is a John Evans in that area but he is married.

I would assume by the little known that James and Sophia are the right couple for your Rebecca? Otherwise you do, indeed, have a few marriages to work through on the parents also.....whew!

This is the right family, Rebecca is the daughter of James and Sophia. Now if I could find more about my John Evans. Thank you for your help, you are so kind!!! I did find the 1871 census, but I thought it said James was an agr. lab. The grandson, age 1, I believe is Rebecca's son, because of different reference's in my family documentation..In the 1881 census you will see Rebecca but her surname is now Evans

Thanks again,

Go to this web page site:

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/

Click on the Search link on left of page midway down

WITHIN Type select MARRIAGES
UNDER surname enter HUXLEY
UNDER first name REBECCA
UNDER Date range put 1873 and 1873

You will receive two hits; select the bold printed one:
Whitchurch S 6a 1259
This translates as to District of Whitchurch S
Volume 6a
Page 1259

If you wissh to make a copy of the record location information you click on the Volume Page number link and select jpg or original when given option. Then save to your coumpter or print it.

On this page and below the two hits you received is a linkt with a sentance that says "Click here to learn what to do now. That takes you to the page of GRO information about ordering certificates. You don't need a certified one! Only a "copy" of the record.

OPn this page are the directons you need to order a certificate including the cost. Do not enter more information than you have as you may get a negative response.

If you have difficulty, practise a bit and cancel out before pushing the send button or finished or whatever..........

The entry in the hit with bold will give you the licenss for Rebecca HUXLEY and that is the best choice. The other link is likely the page of the groom and you will possibly get more on the bride's paper.

Book ,mark the http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/ link so you can find it again for future use.

Well, this is another step...did you check the parish burial records for this Richard and did they say what he did for a trade?

the information which you did not arlead have: Your John EVANS' father's name and where John RESIDED or Richard RESIDED at the marriage?

best look: Cheshire in 1871 for Richard, John, and wife........

We just buried my Mother so will not be looking for a few days. At least I have something to distract me from her loss.

Thanks ; I can now check my Whitchurch films to see if there is a pastor/curate/rector by the name of John C HARRIS in the lists for the years previous to 1873 and also check the couple. There may be more information on the books if there is references to the additional surnames. Some areas of Chester were included in the 'spillage" into Shropshire and the Parish of Whitchurch.

Thursday I will read the appropriate film for the parish recordings. I pirnted out your extract info......

For some reason I thought I had sent you the Whitchurch Parish Burial Records for EVANS which I have a copy of from the Family History Center in Whitchurch area........for Shropshire........perhaps it was to someone else. If you send me a personal e-mail I can send a listing of the EVANS burials for that Parish. I also have the film of the Parish of Whitchurch and also of Ellesmere which I use to link the ancestry of my Grandmother's mother who was born in Whitchurch in 1868.
