I have a grandmother (Mary Louise Gaunya/Gonyea+ other variations) who we believe went from NYC to Louisiana between June 1905 and 1907. The info I have up till now is very sketchy. Born in St Ann's Maternity, lived in NY Foundling, baptised at St Vincent Ferrar - all classic Orphan Train children. But have never been able to prove she was sent to La via the Train. I saw the (I believe) 1905 NY census showed her mother (Louise) living as a seamstress in NY Foundling, but the census was taken literally days before Mary Louise was born. We think a family named Morvant adopted her, and a couple of years later she was "returned" by different Morvants. We believe the adopted parents died in a yellow fever epidemic. A family in New Orleans who were involved with the Sisters of Charity adopted her.
