Lionhearts,
So, you're a kinsman to all kinds of famous, near famous, and somewhat infamous, right? Not me, or at least not that I've ever heard. I've seen some of your postings on the Earps, Jacksons, and a few others. I actually got into the genealogy business because of family legends that I descended from Zachary Taylor and his line and from Jefferson Davis. Of course, for those who know, those two lines and the Lees have several points of intersection. Unfortunately, I found that any claim my forebears had to American royalty were just groundless speculation. My ancestors were interesting enough, but you won't find their names in any history books.
My group of Stones may or may not have come into the VA Colony in the 1600s. Can't tell for sure - YET. Still working on that. Our problem is the name William. It was far too common to make for accurate traceability. Our brick wall ancestor left too few records altogether, so we are left with tons of speculation and not much else. If he was a REAL traveller and came down from CT, then that would be a huge finding. To date we haven't documented any Stone kin who lived north of SC and the southern tier states. There were brief forays into TN, but I suspect the winters drove them back.
I am well aware of the CT Stone groups, though I never researched them much. I do know they migrated in a westward manner much the same as my own family, and during much the same period. I've seen evidence of a lot of the family in PA, OH, and IN. But, if I'm kin to any of them the link is in England and unknown.
So, I won't claim to be a cousin to your wife, though if we can go back to the 15th or 16th century we might be. But, I have a broken trail that makes that link highly unlikely.
I wish it were not so.
Thanks for telling me of the Stone-Alden link. I like that.
