It appears we a distant relative. My great great grandfather is also Alpheus Vanluven. I too have a copy of the letter of which you speak. I have pictures of him and the last house he lived in before he died. He was living with his daughter in Yarker. I believe the Mary you speak of is Marie Grant buy cannot find a record of her father or mother. Was hoping their names might be on a marriage certificate with her marriage to John Amey but haven't had any luck finding. I went to Nappanee archives but it wasn't there. I may try to get to Kingston to see if it might be there. I think she was a UEL and listed in the UEL books coming over the border with an eight year old boy which may have been a step brother.
