I am a Dunlop from Ayr, although recent generations of my family come from the surrounding area Mossblown, Annbank, Tarbolton. I am interested in tracing anybody who has traced the family roots back to this area as they are bound to be closely linked due to the size of the villages. I could also look at records in the area for anybody who is interested.

David, I have read your response with some interest. The names Thomas and James run through my family history for the last 4 generations. The Prestwick connection is also interesting as my family hails from Prestwick Toll. This generation appears to match my great grandparents era. I am only starting to look into the history but if I find any reference to Elizabeth I'll let you know. Regards Greg

Since you are looking in that area I will include my family. Thomas Hay and wife Agnes Ness lived on a farm called Muirburn in that general area. There is a farm overlooking a churchyard that I suspect is where they lived. They had moved there around 1840 from Coyleton with children: James, Agnes, William, Thomas, John, Isabella, and Andrew. Other children were born after they moved, Robert, David, Janet and Jane. I will be interested in seeing other posts. Good subject idea. note* I transcribed a film of deaths in area for the year 1872. They can be seen on Graham's site http://www.Graham-Wilson.co.uk/genealogy/Reference/Reference...regards Dale Cook

I am decended from Dunlops of Ayr. my Grandpa was William Dunlop, born April 23 1911/ passed (God rest his soul) December 12 1974... I am trying to trace his line and my Grandmothers...My family in Ayr has been very gracious and generous about obtaining records (birth, marriage, banns, death etc.). Prior to the on-line services we were doing this the old fashioned way. If you could direct me to obtaining more documents I would appreciate it. I was born in Irvine, but left Ayrshire at the age of 12.Branches of this line are scattered all over North America, Australia, Japan and Canada..Thankyou in advance Laura

Dear Mary: I have been going through my DUNLOP material and cannot make heads or tails out of the Alexander DUNLOP/Antonia BROWN lineage. If you will e-mail me your address privately I will send you photocopies of my sources and you can see if you can straighten the lineage out. I think the William who married Sarah Carstairs is related in a cousinly way to Alexander who married Antonia. Also would like to see how you are related to Alexander. I believe that William, his cousin, returned to Scotland. I am descended from John of Garnkirk. Kate LePinelepinel@cstone.net

Re: Dunlops

I have something interesting in my possesion and I am trying to figure out what is what here. I have a "Publication for notice of Marriage" by Alice McEwen, my Great Grandmother, whose Mother was Ellen (M.S.Kennedy) McEwen Dunlop. I have an address of 29 Waggon Road for Alice. This is dated April of 1925 and I know that my Grandmother Helen Kennedy Briody was born to Alice at Ellen's home at 29 Waggon Rd. on April 17, 1926. I also know that Ellen passed away in 1939. What we didn't know was the first name of the Dunlop that Ellen married and how long were they married? I hope Thomas is the Dunlop we are looking for. Ellen had several children with her first husband James McEwen, who was killed in a railroad accident.Do you have any knowledge about that on Ellen's side? My G. Grandmother Alice was not James' child, nor was she Mr. Dunlop's child. Alice was the result of an affair but Mr. Dunlop took care of her as far as we knew. My G.G. Grandmother Ellen would not speak of these things nor would my G. Grandmother Alice. We know the name of Alice's real father, it was put on her death certificate. But for family interest we were wondering who Mr. Dunlop was? I know we are not blood related, you and I, but we all find the whole thing rather interesting. Thankyou for your time, Jamie
