Hi Paul,
Elizabeth's origins are a bit of a mystery. When she married my ggrandfather in 1872 in Rimouski Quebec, her parents were listed as Duncan McDonald and Catherine McLachlin, however there is no record of her birth and in fact her parents are listed as having twins, children with completely different names, in the year of her supposed birth,1840. Her parents were from Lancanster, Glengarry. When she died in 1902 she was listed as being 62.
She owned quite a lot of property in Ontario near the Manitoba border and Hugh John MacDonald held the mortage on all her properties.
We may also have a connection to John Sanfield MacDonald. My ggrandfather, Allan McDonald, lived on property in Stormont that was owned by John Sanfield MacDonald and my ggrandfather is listed as living there in the 1851 and 1871 census - Lot 12, Concession 5, Stormont.
Thanks
Lesley
