I don't know the answer to either of your questions. I would doubt they would call the house in St George "Rose Hall" but who knows.
At
http://www.lib.unb.ca/collections/loyalist/finding_aids/683....there are several documents which mention: John Saunders, the Ellegood family (John's sister married Jacob Ellegood), the family plantation - Rose Hall which was located in Princess Anne County, Virginia, a "Capt. McKay", an "Aunt McKay" and a "Major McKay".
John Saunders owned, or owned with Jacob Ellegood, Rose Hall in Virgina, which they subsequently lost during the American Revolution. He eventually ended up in Fredericton, and hoped to rebuild a plantation similar to the one he lost, and named his new home in Fredericton after his home in Virginia. John Saunders died May 24, 1834.
Rose Hall in Fredericton appears to have been a very popular place with friends, visitors or boarders. Benedict Arnold lived there briefly with his family, as did the McKays and later the Ewing family. It seems families in transit to other more permanent circumstances were often welcomed. Rose Hall was destroyed by a fire in about 1862.
I would love to make a visit to the library at UNB and see exactly what all the references in the Ellegood papers say about the McKay's, but unfortunately I live in Ontario. Who exactly were "Aunt McKay"? and "Major McKay" and "Captain McKay"? Anyone up for a library visit?
