Barb, did you know there was a KENTISH family at Serpentine about 50 km NW of Bendigo from 1879 onwards who came from SA where the KENTISH family were farmers. There was not a daughter named Mary that I could see.

Another KENTISH family also from SA (uncle of the above chap) went goldmining in VIC by 1870 and they did not have a daughter named Mary either.

Maybe a visiting rellie from SA met up with Robert GORDON but that would be a very long shot??

Elsie was probably born at the Carlton Womens Hospital where lots of unwed mothers had their babies though some mothers may not have given their real names. Since it is now more than 100 years, I wonder if hospital records are available?
