Robert,
I too am researching this MARTENS family and I note you have made mention of the SEEGER family above them on the "Shakespeare" passenger list. You say that the wife (Maria) was also a WASSERMANN and a likely relation.
Could I ask how you know that Maria SEEGER had the maiden name Wassermann? Is that information available on this passenger list which I can't detect or is there some other source that you have connecting these people to the voyage on the Shakespeare and or to their selection as emigrants for Queensland.
I have done a thorough research of the available (online) records throughout Australia and short of purchasing the death certificate for Maria SEEGER I cannot find a connection between the two women other than being on the same ship. I do not have an exact place of birth for Johanna Auguste Wilhelmine WASSERMANN born in 1837 but her death certificate states only Mecklenberg-Schwerin. Johan was born in Rostock. They were married in Rostock but since their death certificates differ on the marriage year - 1866 on hers; 1859 on his and their first child Martin was born in 1870 in Doberan (as he states in various documents)it's another problem I can't solve. Can you please help? Anne
