Possibly you haven't been studying these posts all that assiduously? There is no such thing as a 'family crest'. Arms belong to a person and to his heirs in blood.

When you say, "I have been trying to find out more about my family crest" presumes that there already are Arms and a Crest already established going back in your paternal bloodline.

If you do not have a documented paternal pedigree going back to a person who has previously been granted arms, then it is unlikely that you can legally use someone's arms just because they might have the same surname as yourself. That is called 'bucket-shop heraldry' and is perpetuating a fraud which is an illegal act.

Look at it this way, just because your surname might happen to be Smith, do you think that that gives you the right to use any of the 500+ arms that are already recorded for the surname of Smith? Arms are like a driving licence or a passport - they belong to an individual.
