We believe that the first Mathias Teach was really Mathias Diesch (Circa 1720-1776). We think he has a son Mathias II(1755-1806). Mathias II had a son named Peter.
Is this consisent with your understanding ?

Have you documentation for Mathias1 > Mathias2?
Our PETER, b1790, was the third son of our MATHIAS. Your dates for MATHIAS2 are consistent with our Mathias. We believe that PETTER Teach was the father of MATHIAS; Also: the Mathias Teach from the RevWar who was listed as deceased could also BE our Mathias and was errorneously -or prematurely-listed as deceased, due to location. Teach genealogists from generations ago had been documenting TEACH.
The ancestors who imm here in 1738 who could not write were written down as TEACH on the manifest; those who could write wrote themselves as DIETZ. (Our TEACH was not spelled Diesch.)
There was a Mathias Teck in Bucks Co in 1747 but he was not consistent with our lineage to Mathias of 1790 census >Peter b1790.
I'm definitely open to any new info. Would appreciate learning your relationship to TEACH family.
Mathias is my great5 grandfather, and his son Peter, my great4grandfather. I come down thru Pete's son Jacob.

Direct Line: Mathias Teach (Diesch) -CLT Jr.
My wife and I researched this family line for ten years. Wrote a book. Have considerable documentation. Would be pleased to share. My line, I believe, began in the U.S. with the immigration of Mattias Diesch in 1751. His signature on the passenger list seems identical with the one on a sale of property (originally a land warrant)in Brothers Valley Twp, Bedford Co, PA in 1775. The name on his warranted property was Mathias Ditch. I believe he sold his property to enlist as a private in Capt. Robt. Cluggage's Pennsylvania Rifle Battalion , 1st Pennsylvania Regiment, that marched to rendezvous with George Washington's army based in Cambridge, MA. We know that a Mathias Teach is listed on a Robert Clugagge's payroll as having died on January 10, 1776. I doubt that he really did die, however.
A big assumption is that this Mathias, that I call Mathias I, was the father of Mathias II that appeared on the 1790 Maryland census. I have no proof of that - just circumstantial surmise. Anyway, the Maryland Archives carries Mathias Teach II (surname also spelled Ditch, Dyche, etc.) as a private in the Maryland Troops in the Continental Service on 4-30-1779. His army records also cover the years 1780-84. It is this man that I am suggesting that was on the Maryland 1790 census. Tax records imply that he died in 1806 in Montgomery Twp, Franklin Co, PA.
This Montgomery Twp family is documented - Peter Teach, b. 1790, the third son of Mathias II, is my great-3 grandfather. Peter had six children by his first wife, Betsy Hull, - Mathew, Jacob S., Benjamin, John A. (my great grandfather), Elizabeth, and Susan. He also had four children by his second wife, Martha Hull Rush, -William Jackson, Sarah, Lydia, and Ann. John A. Teach was the father of William Wesley, an especially interesting ancestor and my grandfather. My line from William Wesley continues to my father Charles L. Sr., then to my son, Coleman.
Enough for now. I would particularly like to hear from Pamela. Till later -----

Hello, cousin. You're probably hovering somewhere around being my 4thcousin, as most everybody has been so far. I am meeting up with scads of JOHN A TEACH's descendants thru this forum.
I have researched TEACH since 1989. I'm both genealogist historian, I like to travel direct to the sites in question and see the why how of things. I recently completed a graveyard trip (winding up purt near down a bunnytrail) to see ol' Pete Martha, Peter is my great4grandfather. I descend from son Jacob S ( wife Catherine Barnhart), whom I affectionately call Jake.
I haven't written a book, just have 4 volumes I made up in 2" thick binders, of documents, and 2 filing drawers full of loose papers and photographs on them. I'm one of those who likes to volunteer help folks, hence all my replies on this board. I have been blessed with meeting some of my very nice cousins, and I met a marvelous couple who assisted me greatly in the TEACH genealogies from years ago.
I'm pretty open to everybody's ideas and not going to argue Mathias>Mathias2 or Petter>Mathias because I myself don't have actual documentation in hand on who fathered him, if any exists, but I WANT to have a certain amount of trust in previous TEACH genealogists who researched this line 30-50years ago. Apparently they surmised that Mathias was Petter's son due to ages and location-location-location. I think my opinion leans with them, because of travel at that time. I don't have the line into the past beyond Mathias documented by my own hand yet. I'm real keen on doing things myself, but I'm not too proud to ask for help when I need it. It's nice to get everything handed to you, but I like to do a bit of legwork myself, exercise the mind, meet folks...and doublecheck someone else's stats. (I LOVE to travel genealogy is a GREAT excuse, too.)
You can reach me at .
Looking forward to your reply, Pamela, in Somonauk Illinois, out of Jacob S Teach.
